Steps for Diagnosing a Math Deficit
1. Universal Screener
* MAP – if overall RIT & %ile are low, check areas to determine weakness
2. Determine if it’s a computation deficit
* AIMSweb M-COMP probe – this includes add., sub., mult., and division problems
* Look for patterns of error to determine computation deficiencies
* May further assess when specific computation issues are pinpointed
3. If computation is not an issue…
* Give story problem or application problem – may need to have student talk through process to understand thinking
* Target errors in processingvisualizing, choosing correct process/computation, task analysis/organization
